Information & Resources for Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teachers in South Carolina

Welcome to the South Carolina Career & Technical Education Work-Based Certification Pre-Service/In-Service Training Program website. This website is intended to be an up-to-date source of information for teachers completing the initial professional education requirements for work-based teacher certification. The program addresses the needs of a new career and technical education teacher and is coordinated by the South Carolina Department of Education, Office of Career and Technical Education.

Program Requirements

Year One

Year One

  • Complete DIRECT #1
    – Methods of Teaching

    Attend Five (5) consecutive days in July.

    OR

    Attend Five (5) Saturdays during the Fall

    New CTE Teachers hired after October 1st must begin their certification training with the DIRECT #2 Cohort.

  • Complete DIRECT #2
    – Classroom & Lab Management

    Attend Four (4) Saturdays during the Spring and collaborate/visit the assigned CTE mentor.

    OR

    Attend Four (4) consecutive days in June with assigned CTE mentor collaboration/visits completed before the first day of Cohort.

    Only participants that has completed DIRECT #1 can select the June DIRECT #2 Cohort.

Year Two

  • Complete DIRECT #3
    – Curriculum

    Attend Five (5) consecutive days in July.
    OR
    Attend Five (5) Saturdays during the Fall

  • Complete DIRECT #4
    – Assessment

    Attend Four (4) Saturdays during the Spring and participant in a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) competitive event
    OR
    Attend Four (4) consecutive days in June and participate in a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) competitive event before the first day of the Cohort.
